A garment made for a specific use that will peform to keep the wearer more comfortable in changing conditions. Cyclists wearing the right clothing are out riding in wet, cold and windy conditions more today because the clothing they are wearing is keeping them comfortable. The reason for this is because the rider's micro-climate is being regulated by high-tech fabric innovations that will keep out the elements yet allow sweat vapour to escape. This is what makes the garment breathable. You can also add extra venting to allow air to flow into the garment.
Fabrics for fun!
It is important to realise that the fabric is the thing that will keep you protected. You can have as many features in a garment as you like but if the fabric is poor, then you will end up uncomfortable, not performing to your best and not having fun. This is the ethos behind Freestyle garments. We have access to the top fabrics available. We make clothing for you to push your self harder and certainly have more fun!
Cheaper fabrics have a coating on the inside. The coating needs to be breathable aswell as waterproof. As the garment gets washed more the coating will loose it's protection and performance.
The best technical fabrics are membrane based. They will not loose any performance or protection through washing and the levels of performance are much greater. Waterproof Gore-Tex membranes are so good that the fabric is guaranteed not to leak.
A waterproof membrane

In 1978 Gore released the 100% waterproof membrane. The biocomponent GORE-TEX® membrane consists of is a composite of two unique materials unsurpassed in mechanical and chemical stability.
One of the two components is pure expanded PTFE which is a hydrophobic or water hating material. Integrated in the ePTFE structure is an oleophobic, or oil-hating substance which allows moisture vapour to pass through, but is a physical barrier that prevents the penetration of contaminating substances such as oils, cosmetics etc which could affect the waterproof performance.
The GORE-TEX® membrane was from the very beginning developed in order to be breathable. Due to the construction when you expand PTFE the membrane pores are 700 times larger than water vapor molecules and allow moisture to pass through.

A rugged-duty version of GORE-TEX® XCR® fabric. Extra breathability with maximum durability for demanding, active uses. The construction is similar to GORE-TEX® XCR® 3-layer fabric, but the GORE-TEX® XCR® 3-layer construction is made from specially chosen textiles for highest tear and abrasion performance.

The outer layer has a water repellant treatment which rain will run off and not soak through. Add to this the water resistant and windproof membrane and you have reliable protection. The fabric has fantastic abrasion resistance and is soft and stretchy which gives it a completely different feel!
The high wicking internal layer has a soft X pattern that gives very good thermal properties but also allows your body's vapour to get to the very breathable membrane much easier. Washing and tumble drying will keep the fabric at maximum performance.
The internal layer is soft enough to wear next to the skin should you wish to and gives the garment a high quality feel.
The fabric has a thin membrane that is water resistant and winproof that also stretches with the fabric. Adding a higher comfort quality.
As with all fabrics that use a membrane, the quality of protection does not break down with washing. Infact washing removes oils and dirt from the pores in the membrane which keep the garment breathable.
Where most other nylon fabrics wick moisture directly through the weave, Eco-Climate actually spreads it over a broad area by capillary action making moisture evaporate more rapidly. It is extremely lightweight and can be easily folded into a small pack for touring or commuting.
